old research lane

My research life sat around software engineering, software privacy, big data mining, and the awkward intersection where GDPR, tech law, and actual systems engineering all try to pretend they speak the same language.

current mode

After the PhD, I spent a few years in software consultancy: the professional sport of joining a meeting, discovering three hidden systems, two undocumented assumptions, and one spreadsheet that somehow runs the business. I now work on education and research digital infrastructure in the Netherlands. The research brain is still installed; it just no longer gets to monopolise the CPU.
